We attempted our first overnight backpacking trip with the kids this past week. Samuel was thrilled to carry his very own backpack (with his teddy bear, blankie, and snacks in it) along the short trail. Highlights for him were the suspension bridge, beach swing, and endless playtime in the sand. Joshua happily sat and played with rocks...and ate sand of course! It was wonderful to have him cast-free after what seemed like a very long month for us. Casey was a fantastic diaper sherpa. The weather was gorgeous and it was great to listen to the sound of the surf at night. The boys slept better than their parents...who have been spoiled by sleeping in the trailer on camping trips!
nice spot for a first family backpack trip! now you'll have a much better idea of backcountry needs with kids for the next trip. did samuel go down the bridges at the end by himself? it gets pretty steep!
